Bull Island Print - Ladies Bathing Shelter
Well known to all the sea swimmers out there, these iconic Northside bathing shelters need no introduction. Jando's unique pop art take on the shelters capture their sleek design and show the Poolbeg towers in the background.
Jando writes: "The Bull Island Bathing Shelters were designed in 1934 by architectural icon Herbert Simms. Simms was responsible for the construction of 17,000 dwellings during his time as a pioneering Housing Architect working for Dublin Corporation. He also managed to find the time to design a series of structures along the Bull Wall promenade / Clontarf area including the modernist and iconic Bull Island Bathing Shelters.
The elegance of these structures can be attributed to the proportionality and simplicity of the design. The shelters provide sanctuary for swimmers to change in privacy and, over 80 years on, these generous public amenities are still in use today, just as their architect intended."
